David Englin Endorses Sean Holihan for City Council

While endorsements won't win or lose an election, I do think they send a message to potential volunteers and campaign donors. That's why early endorsements can say a lot about a campaign. It's with that in mind that I'm mentioning that Del. David Englin has endorsed Sean Holihan for Alexandria City Council.

This is a big endorsement because Englin has become one of the leading progressives in the General Assembly. Considering how we've seen the Democratic caucus shrink in the House of Delegates, Englin's voice has become even more important down in Richmond and he'll need as much help as possible at the local level to help rally support around progressive values. As David mentioned in his endorsement, Sean's past work in the General Assembly for Brian Moran and George Barker (both of whom represented parts of Alexandria) and knowledge of the local community will make him a valuable advocate for Alexandria -- both on the Council and when it comes to issues being considered down in Richmond.

So with that in mind, here's the statement that Englin released in support of Sean's candidacy:

“Sean Holihan is a hardworking progressive whose years of public policy experience in the General Assembly and active work improving Alexandria have prepared him to serve our community well. I’ve worked closely with Sean in Richmond and in Alexandria. Especially with more challenging local budget years ahead, Alexandrians can trust Sean’s judgment. He will be a champion for Alexandria’s underdogs and will make tough, smart decisions on City Council that will protect and improve quality of life for all Alexandrians.”
